Abstract

This paper provides some background information and my view on the ethical issues in drafting and implementing the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Maternal and Infant Health Care (abbreviated as “the Law” below).

This article was presented at a meeting of the HUGO Ethical Committee in San Francisco, USA on November 25, 1996 and revised after the meeting Thanks to Professor Hiraku Takebe and Professor Daniel Wikler for their careful reading of the manuscript and very good advice for revision. Of course, it is my responsibility for anything presented in this article.
