Abstract
We present the problem of annual harvest planning for Swedish forest companies. In comparison with competitors on the international market, Sweden has large infrastructure costs. This forces the provision of forest products to be efficient and customer-oriented. Large forest firms own a considerable part of the forest. They generally have an organisation where the operations are divided into smaller regions, which may be composed of one or several districts. At each district harvesting plans are made for both the long-term and short-term. On a tactical level an overall plan for one year is made. Through central planning, the annual industrial demand for paper-, pulp- and sawmills are distributed on a monthly level for each district. On an operative level a more detailed plan is made for several weeks. The plans are continuously updated.
