Abstract
This article focuses on the levels and quality of educational attainment in Korea. To what extent have the Korean people attained a formal education, attending primary, secondary, and higher schools of education? How do they actually feel about their country’s educational system? This paper addresses these two and other related questions drawing upon aggregate educational statistics and public opinion surveys. Analysis of these data reveals that the public educational system has produced the most literate of the economically developed countries. Yet, the country remains far from being a nation of citizens endowed with creative spirits and compassionate minds.
