Abstract
Foregoing chapters repeatedly emphasized the importance of Fc, fibroplasia per SMC in the intimal layer, in the formation of atheroma. This chapter now reviews evidence that the same principles apply also in the medial layer. The evidence suggests a generalized arterial degeneration acting throughout the artery wall, but progressing much faster in the intima.
