Abstract

A structure must satisfy the conditions of equilibrium (deformed equilibrium in the nonlinear case), the pieces of the structure must fit together in their loaded state and a constitutive equation must be satisfied. In this chapter all these conditions are met for the truss. The only restriction here is that the truss bars or elements be linear springs whose forces are proportional to their true length change.
