Abstract
This chapter focuses on the use of the EQ-5D in a variety of different countries across the world. The EQ-5D was specifically developed in the European context, and most of the detailed valuation work has been undertaken in Europe, as is made clear in this book. The instrument has, however, been used in a wide range of countries. EuroQol Group plenary meetings, held once per year, have witnessed a substantial increase in papers from countries outside Europe, and contributors to this chapter have themselves presented papers at these meetings. Since these contributions come from a variety of different countries, from different parts of the world, and from very different cultural backgrounds, it is of considerable interest to the Group and worthy of wider exposure, how the EQ-5D ‘performs’ in these wider contexts. The 4 sections are from Japan, New Zealand, North America, and Zimbabwe.
