Abstract
Following a brief description of the phenomenological differences between scattering by ‘blunt’ and ‘sharp’ bodies the bulk of this paper concerns the latter situation. In particular, we aim to show how modern asymptotic techniques can say more about the modal structure of the creeping field and also to provide a full description of the scattered field engendered by plane wave incidence upon a finite obstacle. This includes expressions for the far-field directivity associated with the scattered field at distances sufficiently large for the obstacle to appear point-like.
