Abstract

The major problem of sustainable agriculture is to overcome the range of stresses in environmentally compatible ways. To do this, genetic variability is needed in the best genotypes that are improved for the areas of need. Thus, induced mutation technologies and biotechnologies are major players in creating the desired variability for stress resistance or tolerance and in manipulating and evaluating them in efficient ways for improved germplasm. The problems of biotechnological applications in developing countries are many-fold and the approaches can be basically divided into in vitro culture applications and molecular approaches. There are both common and individual problems associated with the application of induced mutation technologies.
