Does Business Process Reengineering Diminish the Quality of Work Life?

This paper examines the development of Business Process Reengineering (BPR). Misconceptions and misapplications of the BPR Concept are discussed using higher education as an example. The authors stress that empowerment and autonomy are the true cornerstones of effectiveness in genuine reengineering efforts. Several examples of BPR’s correct applications are then illustrated.
