Abstract

An exact analysis of bifurcation buckling of spherical sandwich shells, stressed by uniform external pressure beyond the elastic limits of the component materials is presented. The analysis accounts for transverse shear effects and considers buckling in axisymmetric and nonaxisymmetric modes. The material behaviour in the inelastic range is assumed according to both the J 2-incremental and J 2-deformation theories of plasticity. Results for elastic buckling follow as special cases.
