Abstract

Improvements in diagnostics, post operative care and surgery for congenital heart defects within the last two decades resulted in a higher survival rate and a significant prolongation of survival time, for more than 80% of these patients into far adulthood. As a side effect of this, the chance for the development of acquired tachycardias on the atrial or ventricular level is increased as additionally by the performance of a more complex cardiac surgery and the existence of residual volume or pressure overload of the ventricular chambers.7,8,10
