Abstract

Mapping during catheter ablation is an essential component of the procedure in several aspects. In terms of “localization”, in addition to the mere fact that it is necessary for identification of the region of the heart that is the “focus” of the arrhythmia, mapping should also provide some insight into the mechanism of the arrhythmia. Furthermore, to facilitate the ablation process, mapping should also provide some information about the anatomy and geometry of that particular portion of the heart. Finally, if the ablation process involves more than a single point ablation, mapping should also provide guidance in terms of navigation.
