Abstract
As noted in Chapter one, trapped modes and resonances have been studied in acoustics and fluid flow prior to their rediscovery in quantum wires. In this chapter we briefly review the mathematical methods and summarize the recent results in this area. As the reader will see, there are great similarities in these models and methods with the later work on quantum wires.
