Circadian variations in toxic liver injury and the hepatic P-450 monooxygenase system

  • Chapter
The Redox State and Circadian Rhythms

Abstract

Circadian variations in toxic liver injury have been confirmed. For example, hepatotoxicity of trichloroethylene was greater in the early light phase. These circadian variations were thought to be related to circadian variations in hepatic cytochrome P-450 monooxygenase system by which chemical substances are metabolized. In this chapter, a possible link between circadian variation in hepatotoxicity and the hepatic P-450 monooxygenase system including the change in the redox state of cellular pyridine nucleotide was discussed.
