Abstract
This paper introduces the Kathmandu Valley Earthquake Risk Management Project (KVERMP), being implemented by the National Society for Earthquake Technology — Nepal (NSET-Nepal) and GeoHazards International (GHI) as part of the Asian Urban Disaster Mitigation Program (AUDMP). The motivation for this project, selected project activities, and the progress of the project as of August 1998 are described below. The project activities discussed are the simplified earthquake scenario and action plan, the school seismic safety program, and public awareness and institution building activities.
