3D Polarised Radiative Transfer with Weak Magnetic Fields

Abstract

We present an efficient way to solve the three-dimensional (3D) transport equation for lines in the Hanle effect regime, assuming complete frequency redistribution and a two-level model atom without atomic polarisation in the ground level. This approach is based on a new factorisation of the phase matrix, that is specially suitable for 2D and 3D applications and facilitates the introduction of operator splitting methods. Some model calculations in an isolated weakly magnetised structure are presented with a discussion concerning the ensuing emergent Stokes profiles.
