Polarized Radiation Transfer in 2D Geometry

  • Chapter
Solar Polarization

Abstract

We report on a preliminary modelling study of polarized radiation transfer in a 2D medium. A two-level atom model is considered. Complete frequency redistribution in the resonant scattering process is assumed. The polarization redistribution is described by the Rayleigh phase matrix. The 2D slab is freestanding, non-magnetic, static, homogeneous and self-emitting. We first describe the numerical scheme and then present and comment some aspects of these new results which are especially relevant to linear polarization. A test of the calculations is provided.
