Abstract
The art of computer-based modeling is changing rapidly. In the near future, automated modeling will exploit information technology to turn the art of modeling into a profession. In this chapter we review a number of advances to be expected in the near future. Two important developments are:

explicit formalization of background knowledge and

structuring of the modeling process.
