Part of the book series: Educational Innovation in Economics and Business ((EIEB,volume 4))

Abstract

This chapter offers a reflective view of the author’s experiences of using case-methodology based on fieldwork research, in a module undertaken by graduate students who are professional economic development practitioners. The module is part of a postgraduate programme in Local Economic Development which is aimed specifically at practitioners in the field. The course is intended to supplement the specialist knowledge of practitioners and to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the range of economic development activities. The thrust of the modules which comprise the programme is to develop the students’ abilities to identify problems in local economies, and to use their powers of critical analysis in applying key theoretical models to develop solutions.
