Moisture Detection in Sandwich Plates Using Infrared Thermography under Microwave Excitation

Abstract

The increasing use of sandwich materials implies more and more awareness about the long term effects by conceptors of environmental conditions. Among these, water absorption is of prime interest. Many studies (Cardon, 1996) have shown clearly that, by physicochemical interactions with material constituents, absorbed water could generate important modifications in mechanical properties. Furthermore, interactions can be accelerated through with the presence of damage in the materials. Certain investigatory means can be very useful in describing the state of a structure.
