Characterization of the Mechanical Behavior of Wood Laminates with the Help of a Flexion-Compression Device

Abstract

Uniaxial tension or compression tests and three points bending tests are often not representative of the loadings undergone by structural elements used in building construction. Thus, a flexion-compression device, previously built for studying long fibers composites [1], has been designed with the help of ABAQUS/Standard for wood-based panels. After having described the principle of the device, results concerning the damage and failure phenomena of maritime pine plywood samples submitted to mixed flexion-compression loadings will be explained.
