Abstract
New precipitation and dispersion strengthened Al-based alloys are designed for elevated temperature applications (up to about 700 K). Their high strength is caused by a high volume fraction of small size strengthening particles which have to be resistant to dissolution and coarsening at high temperatures. The additives used in these new alloys have to meet the following requirements:

low equilibrium solid solubility in Al up to high temperatures
-
low diffusivity in Al
-
capability to form intermetallic phases with Al of a similar structure to the Al-matrix
