Abstract
A laser speckle analyser was applied in order to investigate the parameters accompanying the Portevin-Le Châtelier (PLC) effect during uniaxial tensile straining. Localized deformation phenomena were characterized in the solid solution temper of two microstructurally different AlZnMg alloys. Together with quantitative results obtained by ordinary extensometer measurements, the in situ experience obtained through the laser speckle technique was very valuable in order to understand and characterize the propagative nature of the PLC phenomenon.
