Abstract

Loss of biodiversity is a global issue affecting on an increasing scale European forests too. The forests of Romania should be managed taking into account the necessity of preserving their high level of biodiversity. The paper outlines the ways biodiversity conservation is achieved in protected areas set up within the forest estate of Romania. Based on the fact that an exhaustive research project for solving the basic issues concerning the theoretical and practical aspects of biodiversity is time-consuming and requires an important financial effort, the paper focuses on some straightforward, practical means of biodiversity conservation within the commercially utilised forests of Romania.
