Abstract
In this chapter we extend to contextual grammars some restrictions which have been much investigated for the derivations in context-free grammars. The selection defined by the choice mapping can be considered to be similar to the restriction in conditional context-free grammars, where a regular set is associated with each rule and a rule can be applied only to strings in the associated language. Therefore, for the control mechanisms defined below for grammars with choice we have a sort of double regulation of the derivation. As expected, in this way the generative power is in general increased.

Bibliographical Notes
The matrix, programmed, and regular control restrictions were first considered for external contextual grammars without choice in [151]. In [160] they were also investigated for internal contextual grammars, but again considering only the case of grammars without choice.
