Abstract
Already in early nineteen-thirties Douglas posed the problem of minimal surfaces of higher genus p >1.The problem of existence in Euclidean space of minimal surfaces of higher genus spanning given contour has been considered by Douglas, Courant, and Shifman. Douglas papers were severely criticized by A. Tromba who in several papers written in collaboration with T. Torni gave a solution via Teichmüller theory.
