Abstract

The context of interlibrary document delivery is well known:

  • the purchasing power of libraries is steadily falling, local resources are shrinking, more and more remote resources are used;

  • new information and telecommunication technologies offer wonderful possibilities for information transfer, but librarians have to take care of their appropriate implementation for a better service to end users; at the time that bibliographic data are easily found on the web throughout the world, it is odd to see libraries sending each other millions of photocopies by ordinary mail.
