Abstract
The Central Library of the Semmelweis University of Medicine, founded in 1828 and operated as an exclusive faculty library, is the largest and oldest medical library in Hungary. The Central Library is an academic library and serves as a medical information centre in Hungary. The present collection of the library consists of more than 250.000 volumes and 550 current journal titles and databases. The library acquires Hungarian and foreign literature mainly in medical and biomedical subjects.
