Abstract
Increased use of local area networks with CD-ROMs as well as the Internet has resulted in information being available to most health professionals. In addition more and more “traditional” online services are targeting information at consumers through one-stop shops such as the Microsoft Network (MSN), CompuServe or Europe Online and databases are being made available to users in subscribing institutions over the World Wide Web; a recent example from Ovid Technologies has mounted a range of databases including PsycINFO and MEDLINE on a server at Stichting Academisch Rekencentrum Amsterdam (SARA).
