Abstract
Pioneering studies of self-oscillations in continuous systems, both experimental and theoretical, were conducted by Vitt [Vitt, 1934, 1936] and Strelkov [Strelkow, 1935] in the mid 1930s. The works [Vitt, 1934; Strelkov, 1935] are devoted to the study of a twin line with an active non-linear element placed at one of its ends (Fig 20.1).

The coefficients in the truncated equations for the electric field’s amplitudes in gas laser are such that two mode operation is possible (see, e.g., [Migulin, 1988]).
