Abstract

The displacement effects of a load moving with a constant velocity over the surface of a poroelastic seabed are investigated. Analytic solutions are found for the cases of a point and axisymmetric normal load as well as a shear load. The results immediately beneath the load are shown as a function of depth for various values of a normalized parameter involving the velocity and the consolidation constant. General solutions for the soil displacements u and pore pressure p to Biot’s equations of poroelasticity for the quasi-static case are also provided. These solutions are in terms of unknown functions (rather than derivatives of unknown functions).
