Abstract

It has been pointed out by Rudin (1988) that a parallel can be drawn between, on the one hand, the possible orders of fronted wh-phrases in a Bulgarian multiple constituent question and, on the other hand, English Superiority effects. Like Romanian, Bulgarian allows long-distance multiple wh-movement) In Bulgarian, as in Romanian, a subject whphrase has to come first in a string of fronted wh-phrases:
