Abstract

The existence of p-dimensional Abelian Lie algebra of conditional symmetries admitted by 1st order systems of PDEs in p independent variables is discussed in detail. The link between Bäcklund transformations and conditional symmetries is investigated. The obtained results are applied to several examples of integrable and nonintegrable systems.
