Abstract
The dependence of the effective yield strength of polycrystals on their microstructure has been the subject of extensive work since the beginning of this century. In the present paper we revisit briefly the problem of obtaining bounds to the effective (macroscopic) yield surface of polycrystals. Our aim is to understand, by means of bounds, the influence of “alignment” of grains of like orientation on the macroscopic yield strength of a polycrystal.
