Abstract

Privatization and the role played in this process by the financial system is now—belated in my view—among the top items on the political, economic and social agenda of ex-Communist countries, in Central and Eastern Europe. Many conferences, papers and books provide a testimony that policymakers and those in the world of letters are already fully aware of that this problem is urgent and of the utmost significance if the process of transformation is to proceed at a satisfactory pace.
