Abstract

Suppliers of banking services are under pressure. Changes in customer behavior, innovations in microelectronics and telecommunications, and deregulation have increased competition in banking over the past years. After a long period of easy growth, banks everywhere are experiencing difficulties in maintaining performance. Today, the survival of individual institutions and, at times, even the stability of the banking industry itself appear in jeopardy.
