Meaning Theory and Anti-Realism

  • Chapter
The Philosophy of Michael Dummett

Part of the book series: Synthese Library ((SYLI,volume 239))

Abstract

One main idea in Michael Dummett’s writings is the thought that there is a path from a theory of meaning to metaphysics. Disputes in metaphysics are repeatedly attacked by Dummett from a meaning theoretical starting point, and this holds in particular for disputes between realism and contrary positions, lumped together under the name of anti-realism.
