Lattice-Electron Interaction

  • Chapter

Abstract

We have studied the lattice and the electronic parts of the crystal Hamiltonian in the last two chapters without paying any attention to the interaction term (2.22) between them. Without explicitly expressing it we have assumed, or rather hoped, that the interaction would be small enough that its exclusion would still yield a sufficiently accurate solution for the band structure and the phonon spectrum. Our effects have indeed been crowned with success as the results compare well with experimental data.
