Determination of the Mean Specific Power Input in Stirred Vessels with Suspensions

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Fluid Mechanics and Its Applications ((FMIA,volume 10))

Abstract

Mixing of solid/liquid suspensions in stirred vessels is very essential for a variety of chemical or physical processes, such as crystallization and precipitation, dissolution processes, ion-exchange and adsorption, as well as slurry polymerisation, bio-fermentation or heterogeneous catalytic reactions. In most cases, the fluid motion is highly turbulent (Re > 104). The wide range of applications is covered by suspensions with small solid particles in very low concentrations up to large particles in high concentrations.
