Abstract

It is instructive to consider Alan Maynard’s [41] discussion of the British and North American health systems in the light of Murray Feshbach’s [19] description of Soviet health care policies. Soviet state medicine historically has served as a model for British defenders of nationalized health administrations; 1 however, the present deterioration of medical care in the Soviet Union argues the need for reconsidering those theoretical foundations which Maynard claims underlie the British National Health Service.
