Traps of the Siberian Platform

  • Chapter
Continental Flood Basalts

Part of the book series: Petrology and Structural Geology ((PESG,volume 3))

Abstract

The “traps” of the earth are one of the most common magmatic formations of ancient platforms. Compositionally they comprise basic rocks, and include basalts and dolerites of the Karoo, Deccan, Antarctic, Australian and South American Provinces, as well as Eastern Siberia. Based on present exposures, they are most abundantly represented from the end of the Carboniferous through the Cretaceous.
