Abstract
Abstract
Somaclonal plants raised from protoplast-derived callus of 3 cultivars of potato exhibited marked morphological variation, and the tubers showed a wide range of shape, colour and size. The protoplast-derived cell colonies (1 mm), and the meristems excised from these in vitro regenerated plants frozen at -196C revived, and developed into plants capable of undergoing tuberization. The plants were normal-looking, and the tubers were uniform in size and shape. The significance of the cryopreservation of somaclones is discussed.
