Abstract

In heterogeneous photocatalysis the rate of a reaction which is thermodynamically allowed (∆G < 0) is increased by the presence of an irradiated solid. This is due to the creation in these conditions of some new reaction paths involving photocreated species and a decrease of the activation energy.
