Abstract
An experiment of two-frequency scatterometry measuring directional spectra of sea waves was made from a marine observation tower in the sea. It is shown that an X-band, CW, two-frequency scatterometer can measure a spectrum which corresponds qualitatively to the wind wave spectrum observed by a wave gauge, as it is expected from the theory of two-frequency scatterometry. Relative magnitude of the spectrum is larger when the azimuth of the scatterometer antennae is equal to the wind direction than when it is not. The results indicate that at higher wind speeds the scatterometry has the capability to detect directional differences of sea wave spectra.
