Dendrochronology, Mass Balance and Glacier Front Fluctuations in Northern Sweden

  • Chapter
Climatic Changes on a Yearly to Millennial Basis

Abstract

A chronology of glacier front fluctuations for northern Scandinavia derived from lichenometric and C14-dates on moraines is compared with information about mass balance inferred from dendrochronology. The glacier chronology is verified. Glacier advances not known from moraine stratigraphy in Sweden probably occurred around AD 1140 and AD 1240.
