Abstract
The valley side rises precipitously from the valley floor with a practically constant angle of slope from the base to the top. Such a slope is only sparsely grown with grass. The detritus layer lying on the bedrock (this can be compared to the polymict layer a described in the previous chapter) consists principally of coarse fragments and is no more than 6–12 inches in thickness. The upper part of the bedrock is weathered and broken and the strata have already been bent valley-wards (thus the equivalent of the monomict layer b in the previous chapter).
