Direct Conversion of Methane to C2’s and Liquid Fuels: Process Economics

  • Chapter
Methane Conversion by Oxidative Processes

Part of the book series: Van Nostrand Reinhold Catalysis Series ((VNRCS))

Abstract

This chapter describes the most significant results of the engineering portion of a two-year project that Union Carbide conducted under contract for the United States Department of Energy (US DOE). That contract (number DE-AC22-87PC79817, administered through the US DOE’s Pittsburgh Energy Technology Center) covered both research and engineering programs carried out from September 1987 through December 1989. The objective of the research program was to discover and evaluate novel catalytic systems for the conversion of methane either directly or indirectly to liquid hydrocarbon fuels.
