Abstract
The creation of new plant genotypes through gene recombination was discussed in the two preceding chapters. In the conventional breeding procedure, gene recombinations are obtained by hybridizing varieties, or species, with different agronomic characteristics, and then selecting in the segregating generations for the genotype, or genotypes, with the most favorable combination of the characteristics of the parent strains.
