Abstract
History and circumstance have been generous to a minority of the world’s population. In the United States and a relatively few other countries, suitable land, favorable climate, natural resources, and the application of science and technology under circumstances of advantageous marketing opportunity have produced a seemingly boundless supply of a wide variety of high-quality foods. But this is not the situation throughout much of the world. Contrasts are strikingly cruel, and from a position of plenty sometimes almost impossible to comprehend.
