Abstract
It seems to me that phytosociologists need no convincing of the usefulness of the mathematical method in either survey or experimental work. It may, however, still be appropriate to point out at this occasion that the principal value of such a method resides in the fact that it provides one fruitful approach to rendering complex phytosociological problems manageable while also providing consistency and economy in the solutions.
